Overview

Strategic Communications Thinking

I work with a limited number of clients, helping to rethink and improve their communications strategy. I stay focused on strategic issues to shape a long-term campaign or to navigate an immediate crisis. My experience includes work with organizations of all sizes in a wide range of industries. I provide most value to those organizations that have no problem finding others who can do a great job executing on a plan, but feel a need to spend time with someone who can help them think-through their situation. A phone chat might work — or an extended relationship. In any case, the effort is the same: bring high quality, original thinking to mission critical communications issues. My five decades of doing just for public, private, non-profit, local or global entities led a leading DC business magazine to call me a “Titan of PR.”

The thinking I bring to my clients has been shaped by spending the entirety of my career working at the C-level and reporting to the organization’s most senior executive. I spent two decades specializing in investor relations and corporate positioning, giving me an especially acute understanding of business issues and forces.  I’ve been intimately involved with product and strategy launches, crisis communications, promotional efforts, special events, internal communications – just about every communications issue an enterprise can confront. I have been engaged in a wide range of industries including homebuilding, tech, economic development, associations, financial and professional services, and biomedicine. I have intimate experience with every distribution channel including earned media, paid advertising, digital campaigns, special events, etc.
